Characterization of a Ducted Rotor Brushless Doubly Fed Reluctance Machine
This paper investigates different operating points of a ducted rotor brushless doubly fed reluctance machine (BDFRM) in subsynchronous, synchronous, and supersynchronous speed regions. The BDFRM has a ducted rotor and its stator houses two three-phase distributed windings. An example design of the machine is proposed for investigation. Acontrol approach tomaximize the torque capability of the given design is introduced. The static structural analysis result of the machine is also presented, which led to the final manufacturing of the machine laminations. Machine assembly and drive implementation steps are discussed. The built machine is experimentally tested in different speed regions.
