Numerical and experimental study of heat-and-mass transfer processes in two-stage metal hydride hydrogen compressor
This work presents a hybrid model for the simulation of heat and mass transfer in metal hydride (MH) reactors. The model combines "lumped" approach based on mass and energy conservation for the gas phase with detailed consideration of the heat and mass exchange processes in the solid. The developed calculation procedure was realised numerically and integrated in a combined model of a two-stage MH hydrogen compressor (MHHC). Experimental validation based on the data available in the literature, the results of testing two types of MH reactors for H-2 compression, as well as a small-scale two-stage MHHC, demonstrated the qualitative and quantitative agreement of calculated and experimentally measured dependencies.
