Fabrication and hydrodynamics performance of modified sieve tray with Janus feature
Surface wettability is one of the most important factors influencing the performance of gas-liquid contacting process. Its effect on common sieve tray has not be investigated, although contact angle effect on foam valve is preliminarily investigated in our previous research. Here we design superhydrophobic tray, Janus tray and hydrophilic tray by regulating surface wettability. They are prepared by facile in situ coating growth technology. Both coating stability and hydrodynamics are investigated by using air-water as a model system. Stability tests (soaking, gas rubbing and liquid impact) show good coating stability, which assures reliability for hydrodynamic experiments. Hydrodynamic experiments indicate that surface design has significant effect on weeping rate, gas distribution and pressure drop. Meanwhile, the underlying mechanism is revealed based on interfacial force analysis and bubbling behavior, which provides theoretical basis for further design of gas-liquid contacting devices.
