On the accuracy of Large Eddy Simulation of multiple impinging jets
Large Eddy Simulation results are often claimed to have sufficient accuracy to be used for development and validation of statistical turbulence models. This requires not only a verification of LES results against laboratory or numerical experiments, but also a quantification of modeling uncertainty, numerical errors, etc. A good agreement of our LES results with the experiment was already demonstrated in our previous work (Draksler et al., 2014). Thus, in the present work a sensitivity study regarding the grid refinement and the choice of SGS model coefficient is reported. Discussion is based on time-averaged simulation results; therefore, the sampling error is evaluated as well. The experimental test case with 13 air jets at Reynolds number around 20,000 impinging on the heated plate is simulated. The explicit Wall Adaptive Local Eddy-viscosity (WALE) subgrid-scale (SGS) model is used to model the subgrid-scale turbulence. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
