Crystal growth and luminescent properties of LiNa5Mo9O30
LiNa5Mo9O30 (LNM) single crystal has been grown by the Czochralski technique with 1-10 K/cm temperature gradient. A numerical simulation of heat-mass transfer has been carried out. The melt viscosity of 25 cPz was measured at 570 degrees C and 3.25 g/cm(3) melt density. The structural and optical quality of the LNM crystal was analyzed by X-ray topography and dynamic holography. The luminescent properties of LNM were studied in the temperature range 4.2-300 K under photo- and electron excitation. Two emission bands peaking at 620 and 700 nm were found and ascribed to the emission of excitons trapped at MoO6 and MoO5 complexes, respectively. The LNM crystal demonstrated a laser damage threshold as high as 80 J/cm(2) (16 GW/cm(2)).
