Simultaneous Phenol Detoxification and Dilute Metal Recovery in Cyclone Electrochemical Reactor
The efficient remediation of environmental pollutants is of great importance for sustainable development, ecological balance, and human health. A novel simultaneous electrochemical phenol detoxification and heavy metal recovery from multi component acidic media is successfully developed in this study. Because of the enhanced mass transfer, 50 ppm refractory phenol is efficiently degraded at the anode, whereas the dilute copper is also completely electrodeposited at the cathode with 90.3% current efficiency. It has been demonstrated that the simultaneous utilization of anode and cathode can alleviate the side-reactions and facilitate the target reactions. And there is also good performance toward the industrial phenol-containing heavy metal wastewater containing copper, zinc, lead, and cadmium ions, offering a sustainable method for efficient resource recycling and wastewater purification.
