Physicochemical characterization of oil extraction from fishing waste for biofuel production
The aim of this study was to optimize the extraction of oil from different types of waste produced by the fishing industry located at Fisher Colony Z3 and to characterize the oil for further use in biofuel production. Some parameters of oil extraction were tested, and the extraction was based on two treatments:T1 (60 degrees C/120 min of extraction) and T2 (80 degrees C/90 min of extraction). The oil extracted was characterized using the acidity index, humidity, peroxide index, saponification index and iodine content. The best oil yield from both fish carcass and viscerawas obtained from the T2 treatment (4.88%) compared to T1 treatment (2.36%). The oil obtained from head residue was 1.61% for the T1 Treatment and 3.06% for the T2 treatment. The chromatographic analysis of the oil showed a long-chain fatty-acid profile and a percentage of polyunsaturated area of 23.15%, predominantly oleic, palmitic and palmitoleic for the T2 treatment. The importance of this study seek in obtaining a material that adds value to a residue with an organic load that is detrimental to the environment; besides, commercial value for regional development can be incorporated and a sustainable product achieved.
