Using the Bitterfeld-Wolfen chemical park as an example, this article illustrates how concepts and strategies of industry 4.0 can be used for water management. The installation of a modern waste water management is shown, which meets the requirements of a water management 4.0 by digitalization and automation of business processes. For the operator, whose tasks are to supply the resident companies with process water, to discharge and purify waste water in accordance with existing regulations as well as to levy charges in accordance with the polluter-pays principle, there are considerable advantages in terms of process efficiency, resource savings and quality of results.
