Numerical analysis of electrostatic phenomena in gas-solid flow: A hybrid approach
In this work, a hybrid approach combining Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element Method (CFD-DEM) and an electric field model is developed and applied to study the electrostatics in gas-solid fluidized bed. In this approach, Discrete Element Method (DEM) is implemented to simulate and analyze the electrostatic force acting on the particles. The magnitude and direction of the electrostatic force is obtained by solving Coulomb's law directly. The electric field model is used to obtain the electric field distribution which is described by the electric potential scalar equation. The electric potential scalar equation is derived by Maxwell's equations and the Bruggeman's equation. It is found that, this hybrid approach can solve the magnitude and direction of the electrostatic force, and the electric potential simultaneously, which pioneers a new method for electrostatic research in gas-solid flow.
