Optimization of the nitrogen source in the culture medium with waste glycerol for the production of dihydroxyacetone
A bioconversion of waste glycerol to dihydroxyacetone (DHA) was performed by the Gluconobacter oxydans strain LMG 1385 on the (NH4)(2)SO4, NH4NO3, NH4Cl, peptone and yeast extract-contg. culture media. The best source of N were the yeast extract and (NH4)(2)SO4. The optimization of (NH4)(2)SO4, MgSO4 and KH2PO4 concns. in the culture medium was carried out using the multi-criteria goal attainment method. Their concns. 12.216, 0.759 and 0 g/L, resp., allowed to obtain a final DHA concn. of 40.861 g/L with a vol. rate of glycerol bioconversion equal to 0.337 g/(L.h).
