Effect of metal addition on ANFO's morphology and energy detonation
Porous NH4NO3 was mixed with a gas oil and then with metal powder (Al, Mg, Cu or Zn) in such mass amt. to meet the zero O-2 balance criteria, to obtain explosives (ANFO). The morphol. and crystallog. studies were made by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Detonating energy was evaluated by the detonation calorimetry. No differences in crystal structures of ANFO were obsd. The Al powder-contg. ANFO had the highest detonation energy.
