Synthesis of carbide solid solution with multiple components using elemental powder
Hf-Zr-Ti-C carbide was fabricated by free-pressureless spark plasma sintering and elemental powders. The synthesis temperature and oxygen content were 1600 degrees C and 0.6 wt%, respectively. There was no obvious impurity dissolving into the carbide powder due to avoiding the high-energy ball milling. The Hf-Zr-Ti-C carbide was a solid solution with FCC structure, and its lattice parameter was 0.463662 nm. This study provided a new method to synthesize the powder of carbide solid solution with multiple elements. (C) 2019 The Society of Powder Technology Japan.
