Synthesis, structure and characterization of a dysprosium complex with a one-dimensional chain-like structure
A new dysprosium complex [Dy(IA)(2)(H2O)(4)](n)nNO(3) (1; IA is isonicotinic acid anion), was synthesized. The structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Every two neighboring Dy3+ ions are interlinked by two mu(2)-bridging IA groups to form a one-dimensional (1-D) chain. The chains link to each other through the pi center dot center dot center dot pi interactions and yield a three-dimensional (3-D) supramolecular network. This complex displays yellow photoluminescence, which should be due to the F-4(9/2) -> H-6(13/2) transition of the 4f electrons of the Dy3+ ions. The solid-state UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum unveils that this compound has a wide optical band gap of 2.08 eV.
