Recovery of Ni, Cd and Co from spent nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) and nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries by solvent extraction
Spent Ni-Cd and Ni-metal hydride batteries were mech. treated in order to sep. the battery mass, which was subjected to leaching with 3 M H2SO4 at 328 K for 75 min and at 500 rpm. The leached metal soln. was dild. 100-fold with H2O and extd. with Me2CH(CH2)(2)OH, Me(CH2)(6)CH2OH or Me(CH2)(8)CH2OH. The Ni, Cd and Co content in both solns. was detd. by UV-Vis spectrophotometry or by at. emission spectrometry. Almost 100% recovery of all metals was achieved.
