Utilization of converter off-gas based on a chemical-looping combustion process
A chemical-looping combustion process based on a single fixed bed reactor for utilizing steelmaking converter off-gas, which is intermittently discharged and has a low and greatly fluctuating heat value, has been presented. Based on this process, the redox performances of CuO/Al2O3 synthesized by an incipient wetness impregnation method were investigated. The results showed that CuO/Al2O3 exhibited high reactivity, and for a complete CO conversion through the discharging period, the gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of the reduction reaction could be raised up to 8000 h(-1) by elevating the reaction temperature to 350 degrees C. Furthermore, carbon deposition from CO and formation of CuAl2O4 did not occur because of the low operating temperature. The proposed process based on CuO/Al2O3 showed a good applicability, with which the safe and clean utilization for the converter off-gas could be realized.
