Solubility Determination and Thermodynamic Correlation of 2-Benzimidazolone in Twelve Pure Solvents from 283.15 to 323.15 K
The solubility of 2-benzimidazolone (BDE) in 12 pure solvents (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, isopropyl alcohol, 1-butanol, 2-butanol, isobutyl alcohol, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, 2-butanone, and 1,4-dioxane) was measured by a gravimetric method from 283.15 to 323.15 K at atmospheric pressure. The values of the mole fraction solubility of BDE in all of the selected solvents increased with increasing temperature. Multiple factors including solvent polarity, hydrogen bond donor propensity, and hydrogen bond acceptor propensity were applied to analyze the solubility of BDE in different solvents. The modified Apelblat equation, van't Hoff equation, Wilson model, and lambda h equation were applied to mathematically describe the relationship between temperature and solubility. The calculated ARD% values show that the correlation results agree well with the experimental data and the modified Apelblat equation is the most suitable.
