An Electrochromic System Based on the Reversible Electrodeposition of Lead
An alternative system which could be an interesting candidate for electrochromic material is presented. The system is based on the deposition and stripping of a lead thin film on indium-tin oxide-coated glass (ITO). The electrodeposition and electrodissolution of lead was performed by cyclic voltammetry or potentiostatically by applying a potential step on the ITO electrode and simultaneously following the transmittance during the electrochemical study. The lead electrodeposition was studied in the presence and absence of CuCl2 and a higher Variation in the optical transmissivity in the presence of Cu+2 in the electrolytic solution was observed. A transmittance change of 60% for a deposition charge of 185 mC in the presence of CuCl2 was found.
