Synthesis of H2O2-CTAB dual-modified carbon black-supported Pt3Ni to improve catalytic activity for ORR
In this study, a rapid and effective strategy was developed to facilitate the preparation of dual-modified carbon black (CB) support for the deposition of Pt3Ni catalysts. The H2O2 and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide were taken as the modifying agents. The surface chemical and structural properties of CBs were characterized by a combination of BET, XRD, Raman, HRTEM and zeta potential. As revealed by the results, the dual-modified CB shows not only a large BET surface area of 388 m(2)/g but also a uniform distribution of Pt3Ni nanoparticles. In addition, an investigation was conducted on the effect of dual-modified CB on the activity that the Pt3Ni supported on catalyst was involved in. The Pt3Ni supported on dual-modified CB shows a remarkable catalytic activity and high stability in comparison with the other catalysts in the present study. Besides, the dual-modified method contributes possibility to prepare the catalysts for PEMFCs on a large scale under laboratory conditions.
