Solar vaporizing desalination by heat concentration
This study proposed a solar vaporizing system by heat concentration for desalination. Solar radiation was collected by the large area collecting plate and converged to a metal steam generator with small area by heat transfer to generate vapor. Consequently, a high energy flux density and a high working temperature (above the boiling point of water) were achieved with no use of complicated optical concentrating system. Under the higher temperature, the water in metal steam generator boiled into vapor with more efficient. A mathematical model of the system useful energy was established, and the freshwater production was estimated. The experimental results showed that the average temperatures of the metal steam generator and the heat collector plate were 96.3 degrees C and 133.6 degrees C, respectively. The freshwater yield per minute was respectively 12.19 g and 24.78 g in cloudy weather and sunny weather. The heat collecting efficiency of cloudy weather is 44.77% and sunny weather is 43.06%.
