Comparison of heat transfer and pressure drop results of horizontal gas-solid flows in an adiabatic pipe using plastic, sand and glass particles
The current article compares the heat transfer and pressure drop studies of dilute gas-solid flows in a horizontal, adiabatic pipe among plastic, sand and glass particles using numerical simulations. The two-fluid model with the variable gas properties is applied in the numerical simulations. The simulation results are first compared with the benchmark experimental results for validation. Then, the numerical sensitivity studies have been conducted, considering different drag models, restitution coefficients and specularity coefficients. It is observed that the results are insignificantly affected by changing the values of the numerical sensitivity parameters. Further, the simulation results are compared with the theoretical nondimensional temperature for plastic, sand and glass particles. The results are presented by comparing the temperature profiles, heat transfer results and pressure drop data among plastic, sand and glass particles. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
