Perovskite oxide-based photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production: Progress and perspectives
Perovskite oxides have attracted significant attention as frontier materials for wide range of applications, such as electronic and energy storage and generation. The utilization of perovskite oxides as catalysts for photocatalytic water splitting has been intensively investigated owing to their excellent absorption, bandgap tunability, and good stability. They can be synthesized at a large scale using a solution process. In this study, considering the importance of perovskite oxide in the generation of clean energy in the near future, we summarize and discuss the most recent advances in the development of fabrication methods, surface modification, and structural engineering to achieve high catalytic activity and practical applicability for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Furthermore, the challenges and future scope associated with the development of perovskite for photocatalytic generation of hydrogen are discussed.
