Test on efficiency of batch rectification apparatus for Shochu production - Distillation behavior of flavor components in aqueous ethanol solution
An experimental study was carried out on batch distillation of ethanol solutions containing minor components using a 100 liter batch distillation still equipped with a 10 plate column on top. Distillation behavior of ethanol and the minor components in thedistillate and the characteristic of rectification apparatus were investigated by the distillation model. The steam flow rate in the column was 9.57 mol/m(2) . s, the steam flow rate in the still was 1,830 mol/h, and the reflux ratio was 3. The charged amount in the still was 100 kg. Ethanol aqeous solutions used contain 9.8 wt% ethanol and minor amounts (0.01 to 0.001 wt%) of n-propanol, beta-phenethylalcohol, and ethyl caprylate. As a result, the Murphree vapor efficiency of ethanol, n-propanol, beta-phenethylalcohol and ethylcaprylate were 0.5, 0.6, 0.4 and. 0.5. Also, the distillation behavior of the components was explained by the distillation model.
