Advanced honeycomb adsorbent and scaling-up technique for thermal swing adsorptive VOC concentrators
A honeycomb laminate was formed first with a ceramic fiber paper of high thermal stability. The matrix was then dipped into a dispersion of high-silica zeolite powder and inorganic binder in silica sol after heat treatment, and dried again to obtain a get honeycomb structure for the VOC concentrating rotor tightly coated with high-silica zeolite. When mountain leather, a kind of fibrous clay mineral of sepiolite, was applied to the honeycomb rotor as a fabricating adhesive, this new VOC concentrating rotor was found to have a 1.6-3.2-tims higher rupture strength than that without mountain leather. We also developed two different shapes of seal between the flow sectors with fluorinated rubber, and measured the rate of leakage across each seal under various pressure differences to confirm a negligible amount of leakage. A large scale adsorbent rotor was manufactured with this new method and with a set of new design seals to show its high performance of 90 to 95% VOC removal efficiency for a 10 times concentration ratio, equivalent to that of a small size unit.
