Structure-property relation of PP/PA 6.6-composites
Polypropylenes grafted with maleic anhydride (MAH) are adequate blending components for the generation of PP/PA-alloys. MAH-grafting with or without addition to monomeric styrene initiates different degrees of compatibilization and PP-degradation. The MAH grafting rates, viscosity ratios and volume concentration ratios of the blend components determine the resulting blend morphology. Combined with property profiles of the basic materials the latter one highly contributes to the thermo-mechanic alloy behaviour: Alloys including a co-continuous phase structure show a significantly improved heal resistance. Blends characterized by a microdisperse polyamide distribution show an improved impact strength.
