The influence of plasticizer aerosols on sampling and analysis of air pollutants in the rubber industry
A sampling system for fumes and aerosols from rubber products must be developed with special attention to the influence of plasticizer aerosols on the sampling process itself The efficiency of sampling with a combination of selective adsorbents in the presence of plasticizer aerosols is tested by means of test gas mixtures and test aerosols in simulation tests. The analytical determination of individual substances and aerosols is carried out by means of gas chromatography and FT-IR-spectroscopy after desorption of the adsorbents with a solute. interferences caused by plasticizer aerosols only occur at high concentration levels of about 58 mg/m(3), which is far above the threshold limit (MAK) of 10 mg/m(3) for di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalat.
