We compared in our laboratories and in the field precipitated silicas having different specific surface area and/or dispersibilities. An NR truck tyre tread with precipitated silica improves rolling resistance, heat generation and high severity wear. A high dispersibility precipitated silica is better. Only a partial substitution of carbon black by a high specific surface area silica together with adjustment of the formula allows better tread wear performance for all severities together with lower rolling resistance and maintained wet traction.
