Ageing of the internal conductive layer of polymeric insulating systems
The carbon-black filled internal conductive layers of polymeric insulating systems can be irreversibly damaged under certain conditions by a little-known ageing phenomenon called voltage-induced electrochemical degradation (VIED). This damage is initiated by electrochemical processes between conductor and conductive layer and is influenced by mechanical stresses in the insulating system.
