The theory of Makishima aand Mackenzie allows the a priori calculation of the elastic moduli of oxide glasses. The application of this calculation to fluoride glasses leads to values in good agreement with experiemtnal results - for the glass V52, the Young moodulus is 57.6 instead of 55.1 GPa - although the chemical bonds are te different.
