Synthesis of Amorphous Mghpo4-Center-Dot-X(R) (R = Ethanol - Ethylene-Glycol) in Anhydrous Media
New amorphous MgHPO4.0.80(EtOH) and MgHPO4.x(C2H6O2) isostructural with layered MgHPO4.1.2H(2)O were synthesized using magnesium diethoxide Mg(OEt)(2) and orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) as reagents and anhydrous ethanol and ethylene glycol as solvents. The removal of intercalated ethanol or ethylene glycol occurs simultaneously with the dehydration of HPO42- ions into P2O74- ions due to a phase transition to crystalline Mg2P2O7.
