The incorporation of gramicidin D into lipid films by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique has been monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Using resolution enhancement by second derivative spectroscopy and Fourier deconvolution, further details of the amide I and II bands have been revealed. The assignment of these bands to specific features of the polypeptide backbone of gramicidin is discussed.
