Talbot Assisted Pattern-Formation in a Liquid-Crystal Film with Single Feedback Mirror
We investigated experimentally the spontaneous formation of regular patterns of filaments in a laser beam traversing a thin liquid crystal film placed in front of a single mirror. The transistion from hexagonal to roll-like pattern was experimentally investigated as a function of the laser beam incidence angle and mirror distance. Square patterns were observed by inserting a thin slit behind the mirror. Our observations strongly support a simple model for pattern formation based on Talbot effect.
