During photolysis the 1,2-naphthoquinone-2-diazide-4- and 5-sulfonic esters of di- and trihydroxyarenes show different reaction behaviour resulting in different final products. In a new synthetic concept are di- and trihydroxyesters formed, which contain both, the 1,2-naphthoquinone-4- and -5- structures in one molecule. The synthesis are reported and discussed were the interesting photolytic pathways of such esters. Intrinsic new lithographic properties might be generated using the hitherto actinic compounds.
