The Kimura Approach to the Short-Range Interactions Between a Liquid-Crystal and a Polymer Alignment Layer - A Model
The Kimura’s approach to the ordering of the liquid crystals at the free surface is extended on the presence of the polymer molecules at the interface. The polymer molecules are considered to form a fixed network of rod-like molecules (monomers) of given steric parameters and orientational distribution. The model considers the excluded volume approximation as well as the Van der Waals interactions in the simplest Mayer-Saupe form.
