Modifying PET crystallization to improve container processing
Three commonly used comonomer modifiers are compared as to their effectiveness in slowing PET's rate of thermal crystallization in order to improve container clarity and reduce acetaldehyde formation. Two of the modifers, isophthalic acid and cyclohexanedimethanol, caused a real decrease in crystallization rate, but the third, diethylene glycol, had no effect on the rate.
