Compounding glass-reinforced plastics using novel mixing sections
Farrel's Continuous Mixer Elements and polygon-type mixer elements are compared with conventional kneading blocks, in the compounding of polyamide 6,6 by means of a corotating intermeshing twin-screw extruder. While all three elements achieved acceptable fiber dispersion with a minimum amount of mixing, the polygontype configured screw provided a higher throughput rate.
