The distribution of pore polyhedra in the random close packing (RCP) of equal-sized spheres obtained using computer simulation is compared with experimental data obtained by previous workers. Analysis of results suggests that the structure of a random close packing is characterized by irregular octahedral and planar configurations rather than tetrahedra as previously thought.
