Sulfadiazine anion exchange resin was prepared. Loading of the drug onto the resin was accomplished by the batch process. Drug-resin samples with different loaded concentrations were prepared. Microencapsulation of the drug-resin complex was carried out adopting a modified water/oil/water (W/O/W) complex emulsion technique. The results revealed that Dowex 1-X8 (Cl-) can be used to prepare a drug-resin complex of sulfadiazine. The prepared complex was of high loading and exhibited a prolonged release profile of the drug. Microencapsulation of the complex with prolonged release of the medicament can be also formulated.
