A numerical validation of continuum time averaging
A Monte Carlo simulation was used to compare continuum time averaging to volume averaging. For a randomized gas-particle flow system, averaging within a control volume was compared to time averages of passage of particles through an elemental area, both contained in a box. Accuracy of averages of density, velocity and their fluctuations in a particle cloud were seen to converge over a small flux area.
