Despite banner year, wind energy faces major challenges
Despite a record number of wind projects worldwide completed this year, growing demand for green power from affluent ratepayers, declining costs, state government subsidies replacing the US federal production tax credits, and supplier consolidation, the technology still must proceed through an inevitable, often protracted learning curve-an engineering fact of life little recognized in public scrutiny.
