Anaerobic Waste Treatment - Efficient Separation of the Acid and Methane Forming Phases Using 2 Uasb Reactors
The ’phase separation’ concept has been successfully achieved with the sludge granules of the acidogenic phase composed almost exclusively of fermentative anaerobes. The distribution of VFAs can be manipulated to match this phase separation, lactic acid being the most favourable one in the present case. OLR (based on two reactor volumes) reached 54 g COD/litre/d, CH4% in biogas was 90% COD removal was 85%.
