Recovery of silver from electroplating washings by ion exchange method.
Process of the sorption of cyanic silver complexes on two strongly alkaline anion exchangers Wofatit SBW and Wofatit SBK has been investigated. Effect of the concentration of regeneration solutions (cyanides, thiocyanides, thiosulfates and chlorides) on silver distribution coefficients between the ion exchanger and solution was determined by static measurements. It was found that silver should be almost totally removed from washings by both of the ion exchangers. The desorption of silver from the ion exchanger column was carried out with thiocyanate or cyanide solutions of the concentration of 200 g/dm(3). Dynamic test showed that working exchange capacity was a function of the solution flow rate and the concentration of free cyanides. Results of tests in larger scale confirmed the calculations.
