Purification of combustion and stack gases containing sulfur dioxide - Laboratory investigation.
There has been tested the reactivity of selected metal compounds (Al2O3, TiO, Ti2O3, TiO2, ZnO, MnO, MnO2, Fe2O3, ZrO2, La2O3, MgCO3, Ca(OH)(2), CuO and KMnO4) in presence of SO, at various temperatures of desulfurization (150 degrees C, 300 degrees C and 450 degrees C). Among all tested metal compounds, following have been found the most effective in the SO, removal from gases: calcium hydroxide, copper(II) oxide and calcinated potassium permangante (VII). Only copper oxide can be thermally regenerated. Others from stable compounds decomposing at highly elevated temperatures.
