Sodium salts of sulfation products of polydyspersive polyoxyalkylene derivatives of technical grade styrenated m-creosol (Atlen SK - main component: 1-hydroksy-2,4di(alpha-methylbenzyl)-5-methylbenzene) have been synthesized. Surface active properties were found worse that non-sulfated compounds (except of surface tension which remained unchanged). Results con firm that alpha-methylbenzyl groups are of less hydrophobic nature than alkyl ones.
