Evaluation of Ag/Ag+ Electrode as a Reference Electrode for Ion Conductive Polymer Matrix
An Ag/Ag+ electrode was constructed as a reference electrode for ion conductive polyethers and its stability was evaluated with cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. In case of Ag wire as a reference electrode, it sometimes brought about a drift of the redox potential. On the other hand, Ag/Ag+ electrode kept a constant potential with a good reproducibility. Redox potential was affected by the salt concentration in both solvents for CV cell and for the reference electrode. For this reason, the salt concentration of at least 0.1 mol/l was concluded to be required for the reliable electrochemical measurements in ion conductive polyether matrixes. Furthermore, the ionic conductivity of higher than 10(-4) S/cm was kept, any polyether could be used as a reference electrode regardless of their molecular weight. This reference electrode was confirmed to also be used in solid state polymer matrix.
