Sodium Metasilicate Based Proton Conducting Gels
Three gel systems formed by gelling N2H6SO4 or KH2PO4 or NH4Cl with sodium metasilicate have been electrically and structurally characterized. Highest conductivity similar to 10(-3) S/cm is attained at room temperature. Mobility, transference number and conductivity has been measured as a function of temperature and correlated with DTA/TGA studies. Principal charge carriers are H+ and OH- but a part of Na+ also becomes mobile, particularly at high temperatures.
