The concept of the 'reaction cavity' : A link between solution and solid-state chemistry
The chemical behaviour of molecules in a condensed state is known to be sensitive to their environment. The present contribution reviews the main approaches to this problem in the chemistry of solutions, as well as in the chemistry of inorganic and organic solids. The development of the concept of the 'reaction cavity' and the importance of this concept for the theory of solid-state reactivity and for practical applications of solid-state chemistry are discussed.
