Physical properties and structure of Ba2-xLaxRuCuOy
We determined the structure of BaLaRuCuOy precisely by Rietveld analysis and found that its structure is not layered type but rock salt type with a space group of Fmmm. The R-T measurement showed that its electrical property was semiconducting with an activation energy of 1.6 meV. The high resistivity, in spite of large Cu valence, is probably caused by the absence of the CuO2 plane. In order to change the hole density, the ratio of Ba/La was changed. It was found that a single phase of Ba2-xLaxRuCuOy was formed in the range of x = 1.0-1.4. They were still semiconducting with an activation energy of 1-2 meV. The magnetization measurement revealed that these compounds were antiferromagnetic below a temperature of 20 K.
