Enhancement in conductivity for porous alumina-based AgI-Al2O3 composites by use of temperature and concentration gradient
AgI-Al2O3 composites were fabricated by precipitating AgI from AgF and NaI solutions within micropores of porous alumina disks at temperatures ranging from 30 to 70 degrees C. Some of the disks were treated in various solutions in order to modify the surface of the micropores chemically before soaking in the AgF and NaI solutions. After the texture and phase development were examined, the electrical conductivity was determined by the complex impedance method. The dependence of the conductivity on the solution temperature was not distinctly found. However, enhancement in conductivity for the composites with reference to pressed AgI powders prepared from the same solutions was confirmed. The conductivities of the composites with and without the surface modification were compared and its effect on the conductivity was examined.
