Effect of reaction of MoCl5 with atmospheric water on its intercalation into graphite
The presence of MoOCl3 with MoCl5 was found to change the stage structure of resultant graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) with MoCl5. Heating MoOCl3 with MoCl5 and graphite at 200 degrees C for seven days produced stage-1 MoCl5-GIC in a single phase, though no addition of MoOCl3 resulted in the formation of poorly crystallized stage-3 GIC and a large amount of its addition in no intercalation of MoCl5.
