Blake field development was optimized in the low oil price environment of 1999 at the same time new tighter environmental regulations were introduced in the U.K. to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The full-length paper focuses on the principles and assumptions that determined the field-development plan before development drilling. Use of existing infrastructure to develop marginal fields, use of reservoir modeling techniques to optimize well placement and completion strategies, and management of water and gas coming are discussed.
